“A maritime trip for southern fishermen explores 11 islands in Aden to revive tourism

Heba Albohry :

In a step aimed at reviving maritime tourism and highlighting it in the media, the Cooperative Union of Southern Fishermen organized a second maritime trip with the support of the Omaran Association and hosted the Faqm Coastal Women’s Association.

The trip aimed to attract the attention of the media and activists in civil society to the most important coastal areas and islands, which are key tourism attractions if they recover, as well as to involve a group of workers in the fishing sector and journalist scouts.

This is the second trip organized by the Cooperative Union of Southern Fishermen and is considered the first step in the projects implemented by the union.

The maritime trip started from the Barbary coast in the Al-Khaisa area, where 11 islands belonging to Al-Buriqa Directorate were visited. These islands include Al-Aziziyya, which is a natural reserve, as well as Al-Nubh and Al-Jahab, which are characterized by the presence of an underwater cave that boats pass through.

Our camera captured many breathtaking natural landscapes and environmental diversity in the area, documenting the efforts made in this sector.

Mr. Katabi Omar Katabi, the director general of the Tawahin Directorate and the head of the Scout Commission for Aden Governorate, said that attention should be paid to the great heritage (the islands) and to marine tourism and marine creatures. He emphasized that the environment is an important element for sustainability and the vitality of these areas.

On his part, Adham Jawad Abdullah, the acting head of the Cooperative Union of Southern Fishermen, said that this trip comes as part of the union’s efforts to promote maritime tourism and develop the fishing sector in the region.

He expressed his hope for the success of this trip and its role in promoting maritime tourism and promoting coastal fishing areas in the region. He confirmed that the Cooperative Union of Southern Fishermen will continue to organize such events and projects in the future with the aim of enhancing environmental sustainability and developing the fishing sector.

Organizing the second maritime trip is an important opportunity to promote maritime tourism in the region and raise awareness of the importance of protecting the oceans and biodiversity.

In addition to Al-Aziziyya Island, which is a natural reserve, and Al-Nubh and Al-Jahab Islands, several other islands were visited during the second maritime trip for southern fishermen. Among these islands are:

1. Al-Ramila Island: Located in the Al-Khaisa area, it is characterized by its beautiful sandy beaches and clear waters.

2. Al-Deesa Island: It is one of the small islands scattered off the coast of Barbary, known for its beautiful rocky terrain.

3. Al-Fahla Island: Located off the coast of Barbary, it is home to many seabirds and marine life.

4. Al-Shaq Island: Located in the Al-Buriqa area, it is characterized by its white sandy beaches and charming terrain.

These are some of the islands that will be visited during the second maritime trip, and they are just a few examples, not an exhaustive list.

In light of the continuous efforts to activate maritime tourism and enhance the fishing sector, the Cooperative Union of Southern Fishermen looks forward to broader cooperation with relevant entities and institutions to achieve sustainable development and enhance the region’s position as a distinguished maritime tourist destination.
